Lifeboat Land

Lifeboat Land

I’m sitting in a lifeboat
upon a raging sea
As water laps the gunnels
poor hands reach out to me.

The boat is overloaded
all lives are on the brink
Do I pull some more aboard
or do I let them sink.

I was raised a Christian
to suffer one and all
But now my life’s in peril
from grace I’m bound to fall.

We do not know what fate awaits
beyond deaths gaping door
Will we be bound in darkness
of this we’re never sure.

But one thing is clear to me
as I fear the worst
Raw nature sends its truth to me
my kin and I come first
